An important update about your Providence health coverage

20 May 2026

Updated July 2026

Providence has announced that Providence Health Plan will transition out of most of its health insurance lines of business beginning in 2027. This includes Individual and Family and Employer Group/Commercial plans.

For Medicare Advantage members, Providence is actively working on a potential new agreement with another health insurance carrier that would allow current members to retain their coverage for 2027. Providence is also evaluating options for the 2027 Medicaid program with Health Share of Oregon. Medicaid members will continue to be covered by Health Share of Oregon CCO.

It’s important to know that nothing changes for members, customers, or our provider partners right now. Coverage and service will continue without interruption for all current members and customers throughout 2026 and we will honor all contractual, regulatory, and legal obligations through the duration of this transition.

We are committed to communicating openly and often as decisions are confirmed. Members, customers, employers, and broker partners will receive direct communications in the coming months to help them understand their options and plan ahead for 2027.

Our Promise to know, care for and ease the way of those we serve has guided Providence Health Plan’s work for more than 40 years. That commitment does not change. Our focus throughout this transition will be on continuing to serve members and partners with the same care and dedication they have always known from us.

For Members and Customers

Nothing changes for members and customers in 2026. Coverage and service will continue without interruption throughout 2026, and members can continue to access care, fill prescriptions, and see their doctors as they do today.

Beginning in July of 2026, members with an individual or family plan, members who receive coverage through their employer and employer groups will begin to receive communication regarding future coverage.

Providence Health Plan will continue to share information and resources to help members and employers understand their options and make informed decisions about their coverage for 2027.

If you receive your coverage through your employer, your employer will share additional details about your options for 2027.

Medicare Advantage members may be able to keep their plan in 2027. We are actively working on a potential new agreement with a national carrier, which would allow members to retain their coverage for 2027. More information will be shared as it becomes available.

For Medicaid members, coverage will continue through 2026. We are currently evaluating options for the 2027 Medicaid program with Health Share of Oregon. Medicaid members will continue to be covered by Health Share of Oregon CCO.

For Providers

This news does not change provider contracts or network relationships in 2026. Providers should continue to deliver services to Providence Health Plan and Providence Health Assurance members as long as their coverage is active and valid.

Claims processing, billing, and prior authorizations will continue normally throughout 2026. Beyond 2026, all necessary operations will be maintained to ensure claims are paid and obligations are met.

We will honor all existing contractual and legal obligations through the duration of this transition and will communicate directly with our provider partners as decisions are finalized. Please refer to the provider portal for updates as we move through this process.

For Brokers and Agents

All existing employer group and commercial contracts will be honored according to their terms. Providence Health Plan will keep broker and agent partners informed as decisions are confirmed. We are committed to providing the resources and support needed to help clients navigate this transition and find the right coverage for 2027.

Frequently Asked Questions

  • 1. Am I still covered? Will my 2026 plan remain active through the end of the year?

Nothing changes for members right now. Current members and customers will maintain their coverage through 2026. Members can continue to access medical services, fill their prescriptions and see their doctors just as they do today.

  • 2. How will I be updated on what to do next and before the end of the year?

Members and employer policyholders will receive a series of communications to guide them through the transition and support them as they shop for and enroll in a new plan for 2027.

Over the coming weeks and months, you can expect:

    • Written notices by mail and/or email
    • Clear timelines and next steps
    • Information about alternative coverage options

Medicare Advantage members, Medicare Supplement members and Medicaid members will receive additional communication as decisions are finalized.

Written notices may be sent by mail and/or email as required by regulation.
Updates will also be shared at: www.providencehealthplan.com/status-update

  • 3. Can I keep seeing my current doctors?

Yes, if you are a current member, nothing will change in 2026. You can continue to make appointments and fill prescriptions as you have done in the past. If you are shopping for a new plan for 2027, it will be important to ensure your providers are in the new plan’s network.

  • 4. Do I need to cancel existing medical appointments?

No. You should continue your care as scheduled in 2026. So long as your coverage remains active in 2026 that coverage will be honored.

  • 5. What actions do I need to take right now?

No. There is nothing you need to do at this time. Your coverage and service will continue without interruption throughout 2026.

As you begin planning for 2027, the steps you may need to take will depend on your type of coverage:

    • Individual and Family members: Your current plan will end on December 31, 2026. While no action is needed now, we recommend asking your doctor's office which health insurance plans they accept so you can make an informed decision when it's time to choose 2027 coverage.
    • Employer Group (Commercial) members: Your employer will receive information about 2027 coverage options as decisions are finalized. Your employer is the best source for information about your future coverage and provider network.
    • Medicare Advantage and Medicare Supplement members: No action is needed at this time. As you consider your options for 2027, we recommend asking your doctor's office which Medicare plans they accept.
    • Medicaid members: No action is needed. Members enrolled through Health Share of Oregon will continue to receive coverage through Health Share of Oregon.
  • 6. I have Oregon Health Plan (Medicaid), what happens now?

Your coverage remains the same in 2026 and, as long as you are eligible for Medicaid, you will remain covered by Health Share of Oregon in 2027. Providence and Health Share or Oregon will be in contact with you with next steps.

  • 7. What if I am in active treatment for a complex or long-term medical condition?

Nothing changes for your coverage right now. Your current plan remains in place through 2026, and you should continue your care as scheduled.

  • 8. Who can I contact now with questions?

We’ll share updates as they become available at providencehealthplan.com/status-update.

  • 9. How can I avoid a gap in coverage?

For Individual and Family or Medicaid members, the best thing you can do to avoid a gap in coverage is to keep a close eye out for communications, including USPS mail, email and phone calls, from Providence Health Plan or Providence Health Assurance. If you currently have coverage through your employer, they will be the best source of information for your coverage options beyond 2026.

We will provide you with clear and consistent communications from now through the end of 2026. You will want to pay close attention to any Special Enrollment or Open Enrollment dates, so you do not miss your opportunity to enroll in a new plan for 2027.

  • 10. As a provider, what does this mean for my patients, and should I continue treating patients with coverage from Providence Health Plan?

Your patients’ current health coverage will continue until the coverage expires or is terminated according to its terms. Most plans will terminate at the end of 2026. You should continue to see and treat your patients at this time, verifying eligibility in the same way you do today. They should continue to attend their medical appointments and fill their prescriptions as they do today.

  • 11. Will customer service continue to be available?

Yes. Our Customer Service team will continue to be available to support members throughout 2026. Please continue to check this webpage for the most up-to-date information as decisions are finalized and new details become available.
