Providence Health Plan Leaders Join American Heart Association Boards

02 July 2024

We are pleased to announce that two of our executive leaders have been appointed to prestigious positions with the American Heart Association (AHA):

  • Don Antonucci, President and CEO of Providence Health Plan, will join the Western States Board of the American Heart Association

  • Dr. Laurel Soot, Chief Medical Officer of Providence Health Plan, will join the Oregon and SW Washington Board of the American Heart Association

These appointments strengthen a vital partnership between Providence Health Plan (PHP) and the American Heart Association, two organizations deeply committed to improving the health and well-being of our communities. This collaboration, which has flourished over several years, is rooted in our shared vision of creating healthier communities and advancing health equity.

“As a surgeon and physician, I have witnessed firsthand the devastating impact of heart disease and stroke on patients and their families. These experiences have instilled in me a commitment to the American Heart Association’s (AHA) mission of actively addressing cardiovascular disease and improving public health,” said Soot. “I am eager to contribute my expertise to shape the organization's strategic direction and enhance its programs and initiatives. Supporting research that leads to innovative treatments and better patient care is critical, and I am enthusiastic about collaborating with the AHA to advance these efforts.”

Most recently, Don Antonucci chaired the 2024 Heart and Stroke Walk, which coincided with the AHA's centennial anniversary. This event not only raised awareness about cardiovascular health but also highlighted our joint commitment to making a lasting impact on community wellness.

“I care deeply about health for all people in our community,” Antonucci said. “As the American Heart Association celebrates its 100th birthday and looks to the future, I believe that together, we will redouble our efforts to ensure that everyone has the opportunity to live a full and healthy life. I look forward to serving as a Western States board member as we work toward a world without heart disease and stroke.”

“Don is a compassionate leader and partner in our mission to ensure longer, healthier lives for everyone,” said Lanette Trickey, American Heart Association’s Western region senior vice president. “A champion of health for all, Don is always looking for ways to further our mission and life-saving work. He has been—and will continue to be—a relentless force for equitable health for all when it comes to furthering our mission.”

As we deepen our collaboration through these leadership roles, we reaffirm our dedication to promoting health equity and ensuring that all members of our communities have access to the resources and care they need for optimal heart health. Together, we will continue to innovate, educate, and advocate for policies and programs that create lasting positive change in cardiovascular health across our region.
