Making Care More Accessible

30 August 2023

Providence Health Plan removes referral requirement for in-network specialty care
in Oregon and Washington

At Providence Health Plan, we’re on a mission to make care more accessible to everyone. That’s why starting in January of 2024, referrals will no longer be required for in-network specialty care in Oregon and Washington.

Why remove referrals?

Because accessibility to care is important. Now, members like you can seek an in-network specialist's care when you need it, without needing to have a health plan referral first.

Care should be healing, not overwhelming. You can confidently make an appointment with an in-network specialist knowing the health plan referral step is taken care of.

What plans are included?

All Medicare Advantage Plans in Oregon and Washington

All Choice and Connect Plans

What else should I know?

While referrals to in-network specialist are no longer required, members with a Providence Medicare Advantage plan or a Choice/Connect plan will still need to select a Primary Care Provider (PCP). Your PCP is still the best way to ensure your care is consistent and coordinated when accessing different services and specialists. Don’t have a Primary Care Provider? Find one today in our Provider Directory.
