corporate responsibility

We are committed to our community

From corporate giving to caregivers volunteering and caring for the environment, Providence works tirelessly to raise the standard of living in the communities we serve.

Since 1987, our company has awarded more than 15 million dollars in grants and donations to local organizations. Our caregivers donate thousands of hours in community service. We also take seriously the call to be good stewards and care for the Earth through our sustainability initiatives.

Much kindness and great charity for the neighbor.

Our community focus

Providence Health Plan is committed to meeting the health needs of the people we serve, and is an integral part of our responsibility to serve the common good.

Every year we contribute financially to local organizations that work to enrich the health and well-being of their communities, and raise the standard of living for their friends, families, and neighbors.

Our top priorities

Our Community Needs Assessment, completed every three years, identifies the areas of focus for our giving. Currently we’re focusing on charities and organizations spearheading the following areas:

  • Erasing the stigma of seeking behavioral health services
  • Opening access to primary care services for low-income or uninsured
  • Investing in the improved health of the frail and elderly
  • Expanding culturally competent care for diverse populations
  • Ending the drivers of homelessness, while covering the basics for those in need (e.g., food, housing, shelter)

Sustainability

True Health in our community goes beyond our members. It includes caring for the spaces that we live, work and play. Toward this end, the Portland Service Area Sustainability Council was formed in 2006, and has since grown into a regional council that helps each of our service areas set and meet goals for sustainability within our health care operations.

Council members are focused on reaching out to and engaging caregivers in an effort to promote a healthier and more environmentally conscious workplace, as well as provide leadership in improving stewardship of resources.

Providence continues its work in the area of environmental awareness through the expansion of our green building design and construction program, health and sustainable food buying, recycling initiatives and the purchase of more environmentally-friendly and reusable products.
